My Favorite Places In Newport

SHOP EXPRESS

I worked at Shop Express from June, 2005 'till September, 2006. I'm good friends with the owner, Malik, and his brother, Sean. You'll find either of them there. They were born in Pakistan and then moved to Switzerland and then they moved to the USA. They are great conversationalists, so there's lots of gossip and joking going on in there store. Not to mention the food, drinks, gasoline, and everything else you need. But, if you want to go there to gossip and joke around, only go if you have a good sense of humor.

PLAZA PIZZA

Yep, I recommend Plaza Pizza. Best pizza and subs in town. My parents have been going there since 1986 when they moved to New Hampshire. Very friendly people work there, and they have the best steak & cheese sub in town. It's the place where working class people go. My parents may be a little 'upper class', but you know, it's a better social place than Village Pizza, and the food is better. Village Pizza is a bit too 'ritzy' and 'pricey' for me, so get your ass down to Plaza Pizza, ASAP! Plus, it's where the State Troopers go for food. ;-)

HAIR'S WHERE IT'S AT

At least that's what I think the name of the place is. Owner is Susan Dresser. I've been going to her for my hair cut since I was a baby. Haven't been to any other places to get my hair done, except for twice. I will not repeat those mistakes!

SALT HILL PUB

Very Irish. It's the only pub that Jessica and I go to. I don't drink alcohol beverages, but Jessica does once in a while and this is the place we go to if she wants a drink. Great food, great workers. Stay away from the place on Friday and Saturday nights, as it becomes too packed and there's a ton of men talking about their loveless lives and past sexual encounters. Haha.

CORBIN COVERED BRIDGE PARK

I enjoy that place. Nice to sit and to hear the birds singing and the water of the Sugar River go by. Calm and peaceful, I believe I've written several songs there. I've been there at night, too. Very nice... very nice.

THE NEWPORT TOWN COMMON

In Newport, the town common is one of the biggest in the United States, I think. They have a big stage at one end, where bands play on Sunday. Once, a friend and I were very tired as we hadn't slept for a few days, and we went down to the common and stood on the stage and sang 'We Will Rock You' at the top of our longs around 7:00 AM. Everyone walking by thought we were crazy, they're probably right. But it's a nice place, and there's benches all around it so you can sit down and just get busy doing nothing, watching the cars drive by. I took a photo of the stage and it's posted at the top of this page and is also featured on the Newport, NH website
( http://www.newportnh.net ) somewhere.
